Gunplay, born Richard Morales Jr., is an American rapper signed to Rick Ross’s Maybach Music Group and Def Jam Records. Gunplay was originally born in New York City but he later moved to Carol City in Southern Florida with his mother. It was there that Gunplay met Rick Ross where they became fast friends almost from the moment they met. Gunplay and Rick Ross both shared a deep passion for music that led them to form the group Triple C’s (Carol City Cartel). The trio worked hard to build a buzz, later releasing their debut album Custom Cars & Cycles in 2009, which debuted at #44 on the U.S. Billboard 200. Currently Gunplay and the Triple C’s crew are hard at work on a collaborative album with rapper French Montana called Color, Cut & Clarity.
Gunplay has appeared on several on Rick Ross’s mixtapes and albums that helped raise his buzz and get his Def jam record deal. Gunplay will be releasing his debut album Medellin, originally called Bogotá, under both Maybach Music Group and the Def Jam label. Gunplay turned himself in to Miami authorities on October the 10th 2012, after a warrant has been issued for his arrest on charges of armed robbery. Morales also faces a second charge of aggravated assault with a firearm. According to the rapper’s attorney, Gunplay could face life in prison if convicted on both counts.
